I GOT A HOST FAMILY!

July 24th, the second week of my last school holidays in New Zealand, has got to be one of the best days of my life.. I got a host family!!!!!!!!! Words cannot describe how excited I was to find out! And it was perfect timing as I only have just under one month until I begin my exchange!
I will be living in a small and very beautiful town called Hiis, in the region of Midi-Pyrénées. Toulouse, the capital of
Midi-Pyrénées, is an hour and a half away and Lourdes is only 30 minutes! From what I have seen of Hiis, it looks like an idyllic French village. Stone buildings and narrow streets, with huge mountains (les Pyrénées), trees and farms surrounding. Hot summers with blue skies, possibly snow in the winter (white christmas!). There are also many sheep and cows so I should feel right at home! ;)
My school Victor Duruy, in Bagnères de Bigorre, is about 9km away from home. There are about 500 to 800 students there I've been told. It's crazy to imagine all of the new people I am going to meet and build my life around!

My host family and I have talked quite a few times, they are really lovely and welcoming!! They seem like very friendly, caring and fun-loving people. These days I am really exhausted from all of the hard work I'm putting in to gaining NCEA level 3 before I leave, so I will be more than ready to enjoy myself in France when I get there! I'm really excited to have older siblings in France and sisters for the first time! One of my major concerns about getting a host family was that they would not accept me being vegetarian. But my host family are fine with it... I feel incredibly lucky!!!!

29 days to go, just under one month I will be in Paris for an AFS arrival camp. Even after getting my huge suitcase and flight details it doesn't seem real just yet. I can't wait to see and experience so many new things in France and become a French high school student. To hear the beautiful French language being spoken around me everyday, which by Christmas time I should be picking up quickly! And I can't wait to get to know my host family well, I really can't express how happy and grateful I am to have been chosen  by them! Being fully immersed in French culture is something I have only dreamed of since I was little. I can't believe that It's about to become real in 29 days!!!! Speechless.

The next time I post will either be a few days before I leave or once I'm in France!

À bientôt!
